Green is Good

Green is good

Our ECO sign points the way to products that were designed and manufactured with extra consideration to the environment. We call it ECO – Environmentally Conscious Option.

We are introducing a new range of organic products with our very own environment symbol. We have named these products ECO – Environmentally Conscious Option. Products with this label have been manufactured with extra special concern for the environment, over and above our standard requirements related to the use of chemicals and water footprint. ECO label products are made from either materials with a lower environmental impact, such as organically grown cotton, recycled synthetic fibers or the entire production chain is certified by an independent body like GOTS.
You can find more information on what makes each particular product an environmentally conscious option on the product label.

The range now includes:

GOTS, Global Organic Textile Standard

GOTS is the worldwide leading textile processing and certification standard for organic fibers. Since 2014, all our striped basic garments and solid colours in red and blue that were previously labelled with the Nordic Eco label are labelled with the GOTS symbol in the care instructions label instead.

Organic Cotton

All cotton products with our environment symbol are made of cotton grown in accordance with organic methods without the use of chemicals such as synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. Organic cotton farmers are also prohibited from using genetically modified cotton (GMO). Products made from organic cotton must be kept separate throughout the entire production and accompanied by certification of their origin.

Recycled polyamide

The materials in these products are made from recycled fibers from fishing nets and textile waste. Several of our shell garments contain recycled polyamide.

Recycled polyester

The materials in these products are made from recycled fibers from PET bottles or textile waste. These products include fleeces made of polyester, a material manufactured from a plastic called Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) that is also used in plastic bottles. Choosing our ECO fleece tops instead means you are helping to reduce the use of oil and the environmental impact related to the production of new synthetic fibers.

In addition to buying ECO, you can help the environment by remembering these tips:

Take care of

Take care of your clothes and they’ll last longer. Mend them if you can, and don’t wash them more than necessary. Outerwear can often be spot-washed with a damp cloth instead of machine washing. This will also save on energy, water and detergent.  Ask about “spare parts” in your Polarn O. Pyret shop – new foot straps, buttons and repair patches are available for some items.

We want our clothes to be used many times and by many kids. If it were up to us, not one single Polarn O. Pyret garment would ever be thrown away. That is why we demand such high standards of quality on all of our products. When you don’t need the clothes any more, give them away as a gift or sell them second hand. It’s a win-win for both you and the environment.
