Our brown sustainable logos point the way to products that are manufactured with extra consideration to the environment and produced in a MORE SUSTAINABLE WAY
You can find more information on what makes each particular product an environmentally conscious option on the product label.
The range includes:
GOTS, Global Organic Textile Standard
GOTS is the worldwide leading textile processing and certification standard for organic fibers. Since 2014, all our striped basic garments and solid colours in red and blue that were previously labelled with the Nordic Eco label are labelled with the GOTS symbol in the care instructions label instead.
Better Cotton Initiative (BCI)
We have been a member of the global non-profit organisation Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) since 2013. As a member, we further the organisation’s mission to transform the global cotton industry for the sake of cotton growers, the environments in which cotton is grown and the sector’s future. This includes ongoing and measurable environmental, social and economic improvements. Garments that carry the BCI logo support this work.
Better Cotton is produced by farmers who:
- use water efficiently and care for the availability of water
- minimise the harmful impact of crop protection practices
- care for the health of the soil
- conserve natural habitats
- care for and preserve the quality of the fibre
- promote decent working conditions.
All cotton products with our environment symbol are made of cotton grown in accordance with organic methods without the use of chemicals such as synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. Organic cotton farmers are also prohibited from using genetically modified cotton (GMO). Products made from organic cotton must be kept separate throughout the entire production and accompanied by certification of their origin.
The materials in these products are made from recycled fibers from fishing nets and textile waste. Several of our shell garments contain recycled polyamide.
The materials in these products are made from recycled fibers from PET bottles or textile waste. These products include fleeces made of polyester, a material manufactured from a plastic called Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) that is also used in plastic bottles. Choosing our ECO fleece tops instead means you are helping to reduce the use of oil and the environmental impact related to the production of new synthetic fibers.
In addition to buying more sustainable products, you can help the environment by remembering these tips:
Take care of
Take care of your clothes and they’ll last longer. Mend them if you can, and don’t wash them more than necessary. Outerwear can often be spot-washed with a damp cloth instead of machine washing. This will also save on energy, water and detergent. Ask about “spare parts” in your Polarn O. Pyret shop – new foot straps, buttons and repair patches are available for some items.
We want our clothes to be used many times and by many kids. If it were up to us, not one single Polarn O. Pyret garment would ever be thrown away. That is why we demand such high standards of quality on all of our products. When you don’t need the clothes any more, give them away as a gift or sell them second hand. It’s a win-win for both you and the environment.
